First Major Fine for Wide MFN Clause Imposed on Price Comparison Website

On 19 November 2020, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) imposed a fine of GBP17.9 million on a price comparison website operator for imposing most favoured nation clauses (MFNs) in contracts with home insurers selling through the well-known website, comparethemarket.com. The MFNs covered a two-year period from 1 December 2015 to 1 December 2017 and prevented the home insurers from offering better prices elsewhere.
