Inspiring Women: Identity beyond profession
May 23, 2024
In the early 1900s, economists predicted that by the 21st century, people would only work 15 hours/week.
With the rise of automation and efficiency, people would spend most of their time in leisure. This prediction did not come to fruition. While automation has indeed progressed, it has also coincided with a decline in communal ties, religious affiliation, and alternative sources of personal fulfilment. Without external forces to ground them, many people expect to find purpose, community, and identity in their work instead. So, in a world where job titles often dominate our sense of self, this session invites you to remember that individuals are more than their professions.
Our wonderful panel of Inspiring Women will share personal anecdotes and insights, illustrating the importance of acknowledging and cherishing the multifaceted aspects of identity and how all of this contributes to a balanced approach to life.
