Helena Haapio is a Contract Strategist at Lexpert, Professor of Practice at University of Lapland and an Associate Professor of Business Law at University of Vaasa.
She is a pioneer of Proactive Law and Contract Design, a lawyer on a mission: a practitioner by day and a researcher, author, and editor by night. Her research focuses on merging proactive legal thinking with design: helping people and businesses use contracts and law proactively to achieve better business and societal results, balance risk with reward, and prevent unnecessary problems. She has devoted her life to improving contracts, especially for people who lack legal training: engineers, business and project managers, entrepreneurs who encounter contracts on a daily basis. Together with information designers and colleagues she has explored new contract genres and designs. She co-authored with Prof. George Siedel Proactive Law for Managers (Gower 2011) and recently co-edited two books for Edward Elgar, one on Legal Design and the other on Contract Design.

Paul Branch
I lead the deployment of new and exciting technology, principles and standards to elevate the role that Commercial and Contract Management (CCM) practitioners play from largely operational to increasingly strategic.
As a seasoned practitioner of the CCM discipline, I have over 34 years of experience in the complex, IT Services sector, running organisations that provided both buy-and sell-side capabilities. I supported major mergers and acquisition activities and am recognized as an ‘Expert’ in post-award contract management. I bring proven business acumen, innovative thinking and collaborative team working to benefit our association and its members.
Technology is changing the role of the Commercial and Contract Management professional which will result in 60% of what we do today being replaced by machines in the next 5 years. Is that a bad thing? I don’t think so. I’ve got practical experience of how to drive systemic change in people, systems and processes to deliver real business value. That’s what excites me every day!

With over 20 years of experience across multiple roles in the corporate and Armed Forces, she has tried to re-invent herself in each role that she takes on.
