This role is fundamental to Motorola’s strategy of supporting both the implementation of major projects as well as in-life managed service requirements.

Dimensions/Scope:

  • As a Commercial Manager, the role initially supports the management of key suppliers in the UK which provide critical communications services to 999 blue light customers.
  • Working alongside experienced Commercial Managers you will obtain first-hand experience of in-life contract management, whether supplier or customer focused.
  • You will meet internal stakeholders at all levels and gain a wide appreciation of the technologies and services our business builds and maintains.
  • You will engage on a formal training program leading towards an internationally recognised qualification on ‘Fundamentals of Contract and Commercial Management’

A commercial manager is responsible for driving business growth and profitability by developing and implementing effective commercial strategies. They engage in all commercial activities, including sales, marketing, business development, customer and supplier relations. The specific job duties and responsibilities may vary depending, but generally include:

  • Developing and executing commercial strategies to achieve business objectives and targets.
  • Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and markets.
  • Conducting market research and analysis to identify customer needs and trends.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key clients, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Developing pricing strategies and ensuring pricing competitiveness.
  • Negotiating and closing business deals and contracts.
  • Collaborating with other departments, such as operations and finance, to ensure smooth business operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitoring and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess commercial performance.
  • Continuously evaluating and improving commercial processes and procedures.
  • Keeping abreast of industry developments and best practices to maintain a competitive edge.

To excel in this role, a commercial manager should have strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills. They should also have an understanding of sales and marketing principles, market dynamics, customer and supplier behavior. Additionally, they should be analytical and results-oriented, with the ability to make strategic decisions and drive business growth.

Supporting the management of strategic and key operational suppliers in accordance with the agreed company process. This role is fundamental in maintaining accreditation to ISO 2000 and ISO 9001.

  • Supporting delivery of key contractual commitments and deliverables.
  • Attending, helping manage and maintain records of commercial review meetings.
  • Engaging on Service Improvement Plans where necessary.
  • Help develop and maintain close working relationships with key stakeholders, customer services, legal and finance teams.
  • Advise and assist business users on Supplier Management matters and assist with commercial issues raised within the business.
  • Identify efficiencies and opportunities to implement cost saving initiatives.
  • Risk management assessment and contingency planning.
  • Provide a key contact for customer and supplier issues.
  • Help ensure costs comply with contract rates this includes validating charges, service credits and working with the finance manager to track costs against budgets.
  • Support and maintain where required the management process documentation i.e. scorecards, service improvement reports, risk reporting.
  • Supporting the Supplier Performance & Process Manager in Supply Chain processes.
  • Basic Requirements
  • Educated to a recognised degree standard or equivalent in a subject which bring value to the role. 
  • Full UK driving License
  • Excellent PC skills e.g. excel, Word, Google
  • Sufficiently mobile and flexible to travel when required within the UK.
  • Other technical expertise, experience and knowledge:
  • Self-confidence to succeed and be comfortable working in a corporate office environment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills to help build business relationships.
  • A strong desire to bring value and to help achieve business goals.
  • Desire to learn and develop quickly in a commercially focused environment.
  • Ability to work and succeed under pressure.
  • Keen interest in working within a Technology based business.
  • Experience of writing and working with documents/ reports.
