A Principal Contracts Manager is responsible for providing strategic consultation and guidance to the organization on all contractual, risk and business decisions that could have an impact on the business from a contractual perspective. Responsible for supporting proposal activity, leading contract negotiations, managing contract financing, working capital targets, risk assessment, mitigation and management and ensuring the protection of the organization’s interests, as well as full compliance with customer and contractual requirements through contract completion.  In addition, the incumbent will ensure compliance with all U.S. regulations and Corporate Policy’s, both domestically and internationally as they relate to Contracts execution.

 Core responsibilities will involve, but not be limited to:

  • Develops strategy and leads negotiations; either as individual contributor or as team leader and is actively involved in overall contractual support (review, drafting, negotiation flow-down and interpretation of T&Cs and other contractual documents) to assigned customers
  • Identifies and mitigates risks connected with non-standard conditions and customer changes in proposed contractual documents; Seeks to discover unstated needs and expectations and communicates concerns and issues clearly to the organization
  • Maximizes profit and cash flow while minimizing risk in the negotiation of contracts
  • Advises internal clients concerning legal and contractual requirements and enforces L3Harris short and long-range objectives and standards in coordination with business leadership
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships primarily with assigned customers and stakeholders within L3Harris organization, ensuring provision of top-class service and high customer satisfaction
  • Ensures compliance with corporate policies and procedures applicable to contracting and contract management; that includes liaising with the Legal department and other functional stakeholders within L3Harris for review and approval of unusual terms
  • Champions integrity and ethical behavior and is alert to potentially difficult situations and proactively provides guidance as needed
  • Mentors cross-functional personnel in negotiation techniques and strategies
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of contract files. Ensures compliance with archival regulations and provides documentation as required for review or audits.
  • Supports new business pursuit and associated contract strategy, as required

 Essential skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. Juris Doctorate preferred.
  • Related experience in the avionics industry commercial contracting.
  • Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and international commercial contract law knowledge.
  • Must interact effectively with all levels of internal and external customers. 
  • Experience in negotiation and long-term administration of commercial contracts
  • Ability to draft and negotiate both routine and non-routine contractual agreements, as well as special terms and conditions.
  • Ability to review, negotiate, and resolve exceptions to the company standard terms and conditions of sale.
  • Integrity and strong focus on compliance with internal compliance and policies: ability to proactively provide guidance to internal customers as needed
  • Ability to connect facts, experience and observations to draw conclusions not readily apparent to others; ability to balance two seemingly conflicting goals and do well at both
  • Ability to prioritize work and coordinate multiple high-priority tasks within limited time constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and deal tactfully and confidentially with internal and external customers at all organizational levels in a dynamic environment
